Bougherra hindered Johnson move

Aberdeen, 13:12, August 3, 2009 ,

Aberdeen target Reda Johnson says he decided to choose Plymouth over the Dons on the advice of Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra.

The Benin international defender looked to be on course to move to Pittodrie last week, but at the last minute chose to move to the Championship side.
Plymouth boss Paul Sturrock has now revealed that Gers centre-back Bougherra, who he signed when in charge of Sheffield Wednesday, persuaded Johnson to join the Pilgrims.
"Reda wants to play in England and he wants to play at a high standard," said Sturrock. "He was a kid at French side Gueugnon and Bougherra was in the team. They knew each other from playing in reserve games together.
"Reda had a call with Bougherra and they chatted about the scenario.
"I think that conversation swayed him to make the move down to England."
