Dons boss hints at sales

Aberdeen, 11:37, August 5, 2009 ,

Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee has admitted he may be forced into selling some of his best players in order to bring new faces in.

The Dons boss has made no secret of his frustration in the transfer market over the summer and yesterday admitted he was finding it hard to persuade players to join his Aberdeen team.
McGhee is keen to keep hold of the likes of Lee Miller, Jamie Langfield and Sone Aluko but admits he may have to cash in on one or two of his more established players to improve the entire squad at Pittodrie.
"I spoke to (Director of The Aberdeen Youth Academy) Willie Miller and (Chairman) Stewart Milne and you have to be open-minded and look at every option. You have to look at what you need to do and that includes selling players," said McGhee.
"I am prepared to be creative. If I have to lose one to get in another three who will improve us as a team then I have to be prepared to do it.
"I have not been unhappy with the attitude or the general quality of the squad but I think we are lacking in several positions and to fill those maybe I will have to sacrifice somewhere else.
"There has been no interest. I think we would have to initiate it by saying people are available and that would mean the best players."
Aberdeen have missed out on Reda Johnson this summer, who opted to play Championship football with Plymouth, while Jim Paterson and Steve MacLean were expected to make the switch from the Pilgrims to Aberdeen but McGhee didn't have the funds to match their wages.
