Dons make backroom change
Aberdeen, 13:36, August 24, 2009 ,
Aberdeen goalkeeping coach Jim Leighton has been axed by the Dons, with Mark McGhee keen to appoint Colin Meldrum as his replacement.
The 51-year-old, who had two spells as a player with Aberdeen, returned to Pittodrie in a coaching capacity in 2000 and it was thought that he would continue in the role as a former team-mate of Mark McGhee.
But Leighton has now been shown the door and the Dons boss is reportedly looking to bring in Meldrum, whom he worked with during his time in charge at Motherwell.
McGhee told the official Aberdeen club website: "I would like to thank Jim for the contribution he has made in his two spells here, both as a player and a coach."
