Kerr given skipper's armband
Aberdeen, 12:55, August 13, 2009 ,
Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee has announced that midfielder Mark Kerr will be the team's new captain.
The 27-year-old has been an ever-present in the line-up following his arrival from Dundee United and has now been rewarded with the skipper's armband, following Scott Severin's departure to Watford over the summer.
Kerr is delighted McGhee has shown faith in him and insists he will relish the responsibility.
"I'm delighted to be given the opportunity to captain Aberdeen," Kerr told his club's official website.
"I'm confident I can do a good job without having to change my game too much.
The former Falkirk ace added: "I skippered some of my previous clubs on the odd occasion and I really enjoyed it, but to be the club captain of Aberdeen is great.
"I know what it means to skipper this club and what this club means to its tremendous supporters.
"There is a lot of responsibility on my shoulders, not only on the park but off the park as well, but I feel I am up to the task."
Kerr's first game as the Dons leader will be against Celtic on Saturday.
