Arsenal target Italian keeper

Arsenal target Federico Marchetti is set to leave Cagliari after he failed to join Sampdoria.

The 27-year-old played in goal as cover for Gianluigi Buffon during Italy's poor World Cup and was expected to join Sampdoria this summer.
However, the deal fell through because, according to Marchetti, Cagliari asked for too much money and they subsequently ruined his chances of playing Champions League football next season.
These comments will interest Arsenal, who have been linked many times with the ex-Torino shot-stopper and are in the market for a new goalkeeper.
Club president Massimo Cellino told Sport Italia that "the only real club that is pushing for his signature is Arsenal."
A statement on the club website confirmed the Italian's desire to leave and the player was available.
"Cagliari Calcio take note of the fact that Federico Marchetti has expressed his wish to leave due to his declaration with the press," the statement read.
"The club will do everything to make him content. Should Marchetti really have to leave Cagliari, then the regular keeper will be Agazzi. Cagliari aren't looking for another keeper."
