Arsenal track US youngster
Arsenal, 12:35, September 16, 2008 ,
Arsenal have joined the race to sign US youngster Charles Renken who is being dubbed the 'new Freddie Adu'.
Renken, aged just 14, is considered one of the hottest prospects in the States at the moment and the hype surrounding the youngster has attracted the attention of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
Reports have suggested Renken will by-pass the MLS in favour of a move to Europe and has already had trials with Arsenal, Reading and German side 1860 Munich, with all clubs interested in signing the teenager.
The player first drew attention in the 'Nike trials' which led to a scholarship at the Bradenton soccer school and the players development has moved on significantly, with many US commentators predicting a full international call up for Renken before he reaches the age of 17.
He is already playing for the USA under-17 side and is apparently an avid Arsenal fan - studying Gunners DVDs to hone his own skills.
The race to the players signature is expected to be completed within 12 months, with Arsenal firm favourites to land his signature.
