Cabaye linked with Gunners
Arsenal are being linked with Yohan Cabaye after earlier reports claimed that Newcastle team-mate Cheick Tiote was the target.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants at least one new midfielder after selling Alex Song to Barcelona and he is weighing up a swoop on St James' Park ahead of the deadline.
Wenger's need for a midfielder increased after Turkish star Nuri Sahin joined Liverpool from Real Madrid on a season-long loan deal and he will step up his attempts to land someone this week.
Reports earlier in the week had claimed that Toon star Tiote was the player Wenger had identified but now it has been suggested that Cabaye is the target.
Arsenal would have to pay close on £20million to have any chance of landing either player but Wenger still has money to spend and could go that high.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew says he is bracing himself for offers for his star players and admits he may struggle to keep hold if a Champions League club make an offer.
