New striker Olivier Giroud has compared himself to prolific Bayern Munich hitman Mario Gomez after sealing his switch to Arsenal.

The in-demand French international snubbed interest from Chelsea to put pen to paper on a contract with the Gunners this week for £13m. Giroud has a similar size and stature to Gomez and that was one of the reasons why he also turned his back on a move to the German giants as he wasn't sure the two of them could have play together in the same attack. The former Montpellier star told France Football: "Bayern were at one point interested. But with [Mario] Gomez, it would have been difficult for us to both play as we have somewhat similar styles and physique." However, he is thrilled at his decision to join the Gunners and wants to follow up the success he enjoyed in France with Montpellier with his new club working under fellow Frenchman Arsene Wenger in the Premier League. Giroud added: "It is incredible for me. To already be a champion in France [with Montpellier], then play for Les Bleus, and now Arsenal. "I repeat myself, but this is a beautiful story. When I was little boy, I wanted to play in the Premier League. My heart has always looked for Arsenal. "I saw they had [Thierry] Henry, there were also [Patrick] Vieira and [Robert] Pires. A true French touch. I have always loved the philosophy of their game and the state of mind of this club. The French were very successful there and the quality of life in London is exceptional."
