Gunners star anxious for first trophy

Arsenal, 11:01, February 25, 2011

Keeper Wojciech Szczesny is hoping that beating Birmingham on Sunday can launch him on the road to emulating idol Peter Schmeichel.

Manchester United and Denmark legend Schmeichel was the Polish star's hero growing up and he revealed that it is his ambition to win a similar amount of silverware.
Szczesny has been given his chance to establish himself as Arsenal's first-choice keeper with Lukasz Fabianski out for the season after shoulder surgery.
He told the Daily Mirror: "I've always used my dad as my role model. I've always looked to him for advice.
"But if you ask me who my favourite keeper of all time is, it's Peter Schmeichel. As a kid I used to watch and admire him. I hope I can achieve as much in my career as he did."
"Winning on Sunday would give us a massive boost. If we do win the trophy we will have even more desire to push on from there and win all the trophies remaining."
He added: "It's hard to talk about being favourites [for the Final]. It's the only chance [Birmingham] will get to win a trophy this season so they will be up for it.
"But we believe we can beat them and win the trophy. We haven't been to Wembley for some time so it will be a great experience. We're hoping to win the first trophy of the season."
