Arsene Wenger says Jack Wilshere will not figure against Reading in midweek but could be ready for the Manchester United clash.

The Arsenal midfielder made his much anticipated return after 17 months on the sidelines when he started Saturday's 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers and delighted everyone when coming through unscathed. Wilshere played for 67 minutes before he was replaced after beginning to tire and Wenger says he will now sit out the midweek Capital One Cup clash against the Royals. The Gunners will now wrap him in cotton wool in the hope he recovers well ahead of the United clash. "We have to see how he responds. After such a long time out, it goes a bit up and down," Wenger said. "What is good is that he got kicked today and had no problem. The rest will come with the games. "Now, after a game like that, I will certainly not play him on Tuesday [against Reading in the Capital One Cup]. Will I play him [at Manchester United] next week? I don't know."
