Midfielder snubs move

Arsenal, 14:17, June 30, 2009

Arsenal's bid to sign Felipe Melo appears to be over after the Brazilian penned a new deal with Fiorentina.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been strongly linked with a move for the player as he looks to bolster his midfield but now the Samba ace has pledged his future to the Italian outfit.

Melo always said he was happy to stay with the Florence side and has now committed his future by penning a new contract.

The Serie A club issued the following statement: "Fiorentina announces that its sporting director Pantaleo Corvino met in Milan with Felipe Melo's agent and an agreement was reached to extend the player's contract until 2013 with a buy-out clause also included."

Wenger will now have to turn his attentions elsewhere and is known to be interested in Udinese midfielder Gaetano D'Agostino.

As soon as Arsene Wenger makes another move into the transfer market, we will send out mobile alerts on our new sms service.
