Arsenal expect defender Laurent Koscielny to return against Schalke this evening but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss out.
Koscielny has been suffering with a back injury but should return for the Champions League clash against the Germans, but Oxlade-Chamberlain is out after picking up a hip problem in the defeat to Norwich.
The injury is not thought to be serious but Arsene Wenger will not take any risks with his young star. Elsewhere Theo Walcott is back in light training following a chest injury but the game comes too soon for him, while defender Kieran Gibbs will also sit out after failing to recover from a thigh complaint.
Meanwhile Wenger wants a response from his players following the defeat at the weekend and knows victory over a talented Schalke side will move them very close to qualification for the knock-out stages.
"If we win, we are 90 per cent there in terms of qualifying," the Frenchman revealed. "They are a team which try to play good football and build from the back.
"They have just had a good result in Dortmund. They are a solid side. Good up front. Dangerous on counter attacks. The Champions League is always a bit cagey. The players know we want a big performance."
