Arsenal fear they could lose Robin van Persie to Manchester City after reports claimed talks over a new deal have stalled.

The Dutchman met with Arsene Wenger and other Gunners officials on Wednesday to start discussions over a new contract but the Sun newspaper has claimed they did not go well at all. The talks have been described as 'tense and tetchy' and Arsenal are no nearer to securing the future of their star man after negotiations came to a halt with no deal in place. Arsenal are ready to offer the player £130,000 a week to stay at the Emirates Stadium, but Van Persie wants to win titles and could have had his head turned by City. City are ready to make an opening bid of £20million but it is thought Wenger would rather run the risk of him moving for nothing in 12 months than cash in now. There has been no indication of when further talks will take place but Arsenal are keen to get a deal wrapped up asap as Manchester United and Juventus are also keen.
