Striker deal done

Arsenal have been boosted by the news Robin van Persie has signed a new long-term deal with the Gunners.

The Dutchman has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium and Manchester United had been been mentioned as a possible destination for the player.

However, the striker has now committed his future by signing the deal which is reported to be worth £80,000 a week. The length of the contract has not be revealed either but van Persie is delighted to have penned it.

"I have been at the club for five years now and there really is a great feeling here at Arsenal," Van Persie revealed. "We have a top-class manager, a squad full of superb young players, a world-class stadium and brilliant supporters.

"Arsenal have a very bright future and I want to be part of it."
