Arsenal striker Robin van Persie is set to seal a £70,000 a week deal to stay at the Emirates Stadium for the next four years.
Van Persie has agreed in principal to the lucrative new deal following talks with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger and it is hoped he will have penned the deal by the end of next week.
The Dutch international is doubling his wages in return for putting pen-to-paper on the new long-term deal, which should end all the rumours linking him with a move away.
Van Persie only had eight months left on his current contract and a number of Italian clubs had already started to take an interest in signing him next summer.
However, Wenger is determined to keep his young squad together and moved quickly to offer a new deal as he looks to keep his squad together.
