Wenger dealt transfer blow

Arsenal have failed in a £17m double bid for Dinamo Zagreb youngsters Sime Vrsaljko and Mateo Kovacic.
The Croatian club claim the Gunners tried to capture 16-year-old midfielder Kovacic and 18-year-old defender Vrsaljko, but Dinamo are keen to retain their services, with club vice-president Zdvravko Mamic banking on the fact the value of the pair will increase as they develop.
"Ten days ago we had a special visit in Zagreb," Mamic told Sportski Zurnal.
"Here were people from Arsenal and they were ready to pay 20 million Euros for Vrsaljko and Kovacic.
"But they are to stay in Dinamo, Arsenal just wanted to buy them for the future. But my answer was sharp, I said 'no' in one second.
"While I have space and no problems at our bank account I can take a risk.
"Yes, I know I'm playing with luck but so far I am winning. I believe it will be the same in the future."
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been criticised by both fans and pundits alike for his reluctance to splash out on an established name to boost their title chances and the news that he has attempted to capture to Zagreb youngsters may disappoint some fans, who will be keen for the Frenchman to add to his squad in January with the Gunners chasing the title yet suffering a number of injury problems.
