Wenger failed with Hazard bid
Arsene Wenger has revealed Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard came close to signing for the Gunners before moving to Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old joined Chelsea from French outfit Lille for a reported £32million in the summer and has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water with some impressive displays.
The Belgium ace will line up for Chelsea when the two sides go head-to-head at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow, but had things been different he could have be wearing the red and white of the Gunners.
Wenger has revealed he was also in the hunt for Hazard but it is unlikely he would have been able to pay the kind of money that Chelsea forked out.
"All the teams with big budgets in England were after him. The transfer price was fixed, because he has a buyout clause, so everybody was at the same level," Wenger revealed.
"I cannot tell you how close we were to signing him, because I don't know what Chelsea paid in the end."
