Arsene Wenger has called for Roy Hodgson to leave Jack Wilshere out of the England squad for the friendly clash with Sweden.
Wilshere is back in the Arsenal fold after a 17-month injury lay-off and Wenger is keen to ensure he does not over do it as he steps up his return to full fitness.
The midfielder played for 67 minutes against Queens Park Rangers at the weekend before he started to run out of steam and he will need a few more games before he is fully fit.
England play Sweden in a friendly in a few weeks and there will no doubt be calls for Wilshere to be included but Wenger says that is not a good idea and he will speak to Hodgson and request he be left out.
"It is a friendly. Jack should skip that," said Wenger. "What is important now is that he gets back to full fitness for this team. Once he is back he will play for England again, but if it is a friendly.
"I will have a little word [with Hodgson], of course. Anyway, Roy will call me about him. I am an understanding manager. If it is a friendly, a full game would be too much at the moment.
"I will speak about it with Roy, but what is important now is that he gets back to his level."
