Wenger not drawn on Arshavin

Arsenal, 12:45, December 29, 2008 ,

Arsene Wenger's search for a creative midfielder has revived talk of a January move for Zenit St Petersburg star Andrei Arshavin.

Spanish champions Real Madrid and north London rivals Tottenham have led the chase for the Russia international, but both clubs have failed to secure his signature.
Injuries to Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky have heightened Wenger's need for a creative spark in his Arsenal engine room and Arshavin fits the bill, although the Frenchman has refused to divulge the names of his potential recruitments.
"I don't need to announce a name," Wenger told French television channel Canal Plus.
"Because when you do that there is 50 per cent less chance of making the signing. But I need a creative midfielder and eventually another midfielder, because we are short."
