Wenger target attracting interest

Arsenal, 16:03, December 30, 2008 ,

Arsenal will face competition from clubs in Spain and Italy in the race to sign Andrei Arshavin, according to his agent.

Arsene Wenger stopped short of naming the Russia international at the weekend, when he confirmed he wants to sign a creative midfielder in the January transfer window because of injuries to Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky.
But the Gunners boss is keen to bring in someone to help revive the club's receding title chances, while Aston Villa and Everton are providing a very real threat to their bid for at least a Champions League berth come the end of the season.
Supporters looking to use their £10 free bet may well await developments on the transfer front before making a move, but Tottenham, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all been credited with an interest in the 27-year-old and could again revive their interest in the Zenit St Petersburg playmaker.
Arshavin's agent Dennis Lachter told the Daily Mirror: "We know that Arsene Wenger likes the look of Arshavin.
"But I like the look of Angelina Jolie and it doesn't always mean you get what you want.
"Arsenal were interested in signing him last summer and they still are, so we will wait and see what happens.
"There has been a lot of interest in him this time as well from England, Spain and Italy."
The North Londoners bounced back from three successive Premier League draws with a 1-0 over Portsmouth last weekend and are likely to rest a number of first-team regulars for the home FA Cup clash against Plymouth on Saturday, before entertaining Bolton a week later.
