Wenger targets Cottage raid
Arsenal, 08:04, July 21, 2010 ,
Arsenal are closing in on Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer and are ready to offer him a player-coach role at the club.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign a new goalkeeper and the Frenchman sees 37-year-old Schwarzer as a short-term fix to his goalkeeping problems at the Emirates Stadium.
Schwarzer would jump at the chance to make the short switch to the Gunners as he is keen to play Champions League football before he hangs up his gloves and this could be his last chance.
The problem for Wenger will be meeting Fulham's valuation after the Cottagers rejected his first offer of £2million. The Gunners may also have to wait until Fulham appoint a new boss, with Martin Jol still favourite to take charge despite the fact his current employers Ajax have put a block on the move.
