Barry unapologetic over City move
Aston Villa, 14:44, June 11, 2009 ,
Gareth Barry says he doesn't believe he needs to apologise to Aston Villa for leaving them to join Manchester City.
The England international completed a £12million move to Eastlands last week, a move which has left a sour taste in the mouths of some Villa fans.
The 28-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool last summer after admitting he wanted to join a club that was playing Champions League football, but was refused permission to join the Reds by the Villa hierarchy.
Barry's decision to join City, a side that aren't even in Europe, has left many Villa fans angry, but Barry himself says he doesn't see the need to apologise for his move to Manchester.
"People made out that I was apologising for it. I don't feel the need to apologise for leaving Aston Villa," said Barry.
"I just wanted to state my reasons for leaving. I had been there for 12 years and had built a good relationship with the fans.
"Obviously it went a bit sour at the end of last summer for the way that saga ended."
