Benteke deal done
Aston Villa beat the transfer deadline by minutes to land striker Christian Benteke in a £7million move from Genk.
Villa had two initial bids rejected before they eventually agreed a fee with Genk on Friday afternoon and then faced a race against time to get the formalities of the deal pushed through before the 11pm deadline.
The 21-year-old flew into Birmingham to agree personal terms and pass a medical before putting pen-to-paper on a four-year deal.
The striker becomes Paul Lambert's eighth signing of the summer following on from the deadline day arrivals of striker Jordan Bowery (Chesterfield) and midfielder Ashley Westwood (Crewe). It took Lambert's spending to £25million and the player is delighted to be at Villa Park.
"I am still young and I have realised my dream. My dream was to come here and I am very happy," Benteke told Sky Sports News. "I hope I will be a success. I am motivated."
