Defender set for exit

Aston Villa, 09:54, July 28, 2010 ,

Liverpool are thought to be the club who have made an offer for Aston Villa's versatile defender Luke Young.

The 31-year-old former England international is the subject of a £2.75m offer from an unnamed club but it is widely thought to be from Liverpool as Roy Hodgson tries to strengthen his defence.
Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill will not stand in his way if he wants to leave but at the same time would be happy to see him stay at the club and join their squad heading for the Guadiana Cup in Portugal.
"There has been an offer from a football club, which Luke is mulling over," O'Neill told Villa's official website.
"If it doesn't materialise then he would also join us (in Portugal) because he needs to play some football soon.
"We will see how that develops."
