Heskey race hots up

Aston Villa, 15:59, October 13, 2009 ,

Dave Whelan says Wigan could be interested in taking Emile Heskey back if the striker leaves Aston Villa in January.

Heskey, who has only made one league start for Villa this season, has indicated that he could look to move in the new year in order to gain regular first-team football to try and secure a World Cup place.
Wigan, along with Liverpool and Fulham, have been linked with the 31-year-old and the Latics chairman has indicated that a return for the England striker could be a possibility.
When asked if Wigan would interested in re-signing him, Whelan said: "We could well be."
The chairman added: "I thought he was fantastic for us. He's such a wonderful target man. Everybody in football would like Emile somewhere in their squad."
