Paul Lambert was relieved after securing his first win in charge of Aston Villa, a 3-0 Capital One Cup success over Tranmere Rovers.
The game had been billed as a potential banana skin for Villa, who have endured a frustrating start to the new Premier League campaign with two successive defeats to date. However, goals from Fabian Delph, Chris Herd and Darren Bent sealed a fairly comfortable win against their League One opponents at Villa Park to leave Lambert happy and relieved. He said: "I know from experience those type of games can be tricky and really pleasing. "It is never easy to win a match, no matter what level you are up against. "Tranmere gave a really good account of themselves and Ronnie Moore (manager) has got them going well in their own league."
