McLeish reveals Larsson interest
Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish has revealed how he tried and failed to sign Seb Larsson before his move to Sunderland this summer.
McLeish was keen to team-up again with the Swedish midfielder, who he had worked with at Birmingham City, but talks were already at an advanced stage for the player to join the Black Cats on a free transfer instead.
Larsson faced Villa at the Stadium of Light in yesterday's 2-2 draw but the Scot couldn't help but think about what could have been, if his own cross-city switch had gone through sooner.
"I've not been surprised by how well Seb's doing up there," said McLeish.
"I tried to get him in the window but Sunderland were too far down the road.
"Seb is a brilliant bloke, fantastic professional and definitely a team player with a very dangerous delivery. We just got there too late.
"He had a hard time at Blues towards the end, but that's a test of your character and Seb has come through that with flying colours."
