Aston Villa are reportedly lining up a January move for Michael Owen, with the Newcastle frontman tipped for a £5m exit.
The 28-year-old has recently endured a tough time at St James' Park with a host of injury problems limiting his first-team appearances over the last couple of seasons.
With Newcastle looking to ease their financial situation, many believe the Magpies could be forced to sell during January's transfer window and Owen remains their prized asset.
Chelsea and Arsenal have also been linked with new year moves for the England star, but Villa boss Martin O'Neill appears to be heading the chase for his signature with the prospect of more regular first-team football at Villa Park.
Its well known that O'Neill wants to strengthen his attacking options in January's transfer window, as he looks ease the workload on Gabby Agbonlahor and John Carew.
