O'Neill unhappy over packed schedule
Aston Villa, 13:41, March 6, 2010 ,
Aston Villa's bid for glory faces a massive month as Martin O'Neill claims his side has been done no favours by the Premier League.
The Midlands outfit are one of the perceived challengers for a top-four finish in the league this year, lying in seventh place and four points behind Spurs with two games in hand.
Villa have been impressing in the knockout competitions as well, making it to the final of the Carling Cup while they are still involved in the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage.
However, those cup runs have led to a backlog of league fixtures and punters looking to use their free bet will have noted O'Neill's comments as he had hoped for some leeway from the Premier League.
"We have got no midweek games in April at the moment but something like 7,000 in March as things stand," he said.
"I've been reminded that we haven't won a game in March since I've been here. We'll now have an opportunity every two and a half days to change that."
O'Neill's immediate task is to steer the Villains through to the last four of the FA Cup and he is not anticipating an easy ride against the last remaining Championship side when they take on Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Sunday.
"I think the game itself will be very difficult, as every bit as difficult, if not more, than against Crystal Palace in the last round. You saw how difficult that tie was for us," he added.
"But, if ever there was an incentive to get back to Wembley again, last Sunday should be it."
