Petrov declared fit for Villa

Aston Villa, 11:35, February 26, 2010 ,

Aston Villa skipper Stiliyan Petrov says he has recovered from a virus and will be fit to play against Manchester United.

The Bulgarian midfielder was forced to miss the FA Cup victory over Crystal Palace on Wednesday night after complaining of chest pains but a course of antibiotics seem to have done the trick.
Petrov has now returned to training and says he will be ready to lead the side out at Wembley for the Carling Cup Final.
"It's okay, it's better," Petrov revealed. "I've been on antibiotics for the last three or four days so we're expecting it to get better and better every day.
"I did a little bit of training yesterday morning and trained with the team yesterday afternoon as well. So I've tried to catch up and I think I should be okay for Sunday.
"I don't think it was ever a major worry because the game against Burnley I played with a fever and then I felt really bad after the game.
"There was a lot of pain in my body and my chest was really tight so I went to see Roddy MacDonald, the doctor, on the Monday and I was really bad so I started antibiotics right away and it cleared it.
"He checked my chest yesterday and it was clear, so I had the go-ahead to train."
Elsewhere goalkeeper Brad Friedel, central defender James Collins and striker Emile Heskey, who were also rested against Palace could come back in. That would be harsh on goalkeeper Brad Guzan who has played in every game leading to the final but there are suggestions that Friedel could step in.
