Paul Lambert was delighted with Villa's character as his side bounced back with a come-from-behind win over champions Manchester City.
The Scot made several changes to the line-up after seeing Villa suffer a second-half mauling at the hands of promoted Southampton on Saturday. And his team fell behind twice on the night at the Etihad Stadium before extra-time goals from Charles N'Zogbia and Gabby Agbonlahor ensured it is Villa and not big-budget City who are in the hat for tonight's fourth round draw. Lambert was delighted with the performance, but highlighted the character of his players to come from a goal down on two occasions. "It is a massive result for us. I thought the way we played was excellent. "It was a brilliant response from the team. It was a huge effort. "We didn't deserve to go a goal behind but we showed real character to come back." City boss Roberto Mancini said: "We didn't play well and we had some unlucky moments but I think they deserved to go through."
