Villa boss speaks out on Young
Aston Villa, 13:50, July 27, 2010 ,
Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has opened the door for Spurs to make a bid for winger Ashley Young.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has been tracking the former Watford star over the summer and is thought to be preparing a bid for the 25-year-old.
O'Neill is desperate to keep Young at Villa Park but has hinted a deal could happen by admitting if he leaves, then the club must get the most amount of money they possibly can for him.
The Villa chief would be extremely frustrated if he were to lose Young and, with James Milner said to be closing in on a switch to Manchester City, he will do all he can to persuade the £10million signing to stay.
"Our job is, first and foremost to keep the players. If that's the case then that's great," said O'Neill in the Mirror.
"If that's not the case, then obviously we have to try and get the valuation that we put on players or get as close to it as possible."
He added: "In the next couple of weeks, I'm sure there will be great interest in Ashley, who has been fantastic for us.
"I felt myself that his form last season was every bit as good as in the previous year. Not everybody agreed with that but I thought Ashley was really a different class."
