Aston Villa should find out the full extent of Stephen Ireland's arm injury, suffered in defeat at Southampton, in the next 48 hours.
The 26-year-old was forced to come off at half time at St Mary's, when Villa were 1-0 up, with Paul Lambert's men going on to lose 4-1 and in the process, slipping to 14th in the table.
Lambert, who doesn't have a great deal of experience in the middle of the park, is now anxiously awaiting news on how serious the injury is, with some big games on the horizon.
Ireland will have an X-ray on a possible broken arm and the Villa boss admits the medical team will "have to have a look at it over the next few days" and he hopes for positive news.
Villa have got a League Cup tie at Ireland's former club Manchester City in midweek, before a Midlands derby clash with West Brom on Sunday and then a trip to Tottenham the following weekend.
