Villa not willing to let forward go

Aston Villa, 15:16, June 15, 2009 ,

Martin O'Neill has insisted that Aston Villa have no plans to sell John Carew to either Tottenham or Manchester City this summer.

The giant striker has been consistently linked with a move away from Villa Park since the season finished, with Spurs and City reportedly taking a good look at him.
However, after scoring 15 goals for Villa in all competitions last season, O'Neill says he has no plans to let the Norwegian international leave the club.
"We want John to stay at the club - he's signed for a couple of years and we want him to stick around," the Villa boss told the Birmingham Mail.
"He's very popular with the crowd and that helps his confidence. His goal-scoring ratio is now up to where it should be. We want him to stay here, it's as simple as that.
"John had a great season considering he missed three months. For him to come back from his bad back the way he did was fantastic. I couldn't be more pleased with him, he's done terrifically well for us."
