Aston Villa have a major worry over Richard Dunne while Gabby Agbonlahor is definitely out of the home game with Sunderland.
Striker Agbonlahor is still struggling with the foot injury that kept him out of Saturday's 2-2 draw against Wolves and boss Martin O'Neill has confirmed the Black Cats game comes too soon for him so John Carew and Emile Heskey will continue up front.
Dunne, meanwhile, was forced off in the second half against Wolves after he suffered an Achilles injury so Carlos Cuellar is on stand-by to step into the centre of defence while full-back with Luke Young could earn a start.
Nigel Reo-Coker remains on the sidelines with an ankle injury as Villa aim to get back in the race for fourth with a win following the setback against Mick McCarthy's side.
