Gabby Agbonlahor has told the frustrated Aston Villa fans they will repay their loyalty and bring the good times back for them.

The Villa striker has spoken out to thank the supporters for their backing in a disappointing season in which Alex McLeish's side still remain embroiled in a fight to avoid relegation as they sit six points off the drop zone with five matches remaining. An inconsistent campaign has followed on from the relative success of three consecutive top-six finishes and two Wembley visits in recent campaigns when Martin O'Neill was in charge at Villa Park. However, Agbonlahor, who has been made stand-in skipper in the absence of Stiliyan Petrov, is confident that the players will eventually get back to winning ways and climb the table in the future. "I think if you look at the players we have lost in the summer it was always going to be a season of change and transition but I think the good times will come back to the Villa," said Agbonlahor on the club's website. "If you ask any of the players they will admit it has been a tough season. "We started off really well and had some good results and then we've had a dip. "I think it shows the Premier League is getting harder season by season. "Also the teams that have been promoted have been doing well which has strengthened the Premier League as a whole. "We knew it was going to be a tough campaign but we're battling through and we will keep going in the remaining games."
