Barnsley land winger deal

Barnsley, 16:56, November 7, 2008

Preston's Simon Whaley has joined Barnsley on a month-long loan and is in line for a debut against Sheffield United.

Whaley lost his place up front at Preston alongside Neil Mellor when Jon Parkin arrived and boss Alan Irvine admits he has been low on confidence.

Irvine told the club's website: "Hopefully he'll come back to us in the kind of form we know he's capable of.

"There's no discussion about this being a permanent move and we've only discussed the possibility of him being there for a month, we haven't discussed anything beyond that at all."

Said Whaley: "I knew I could go on loan at the start of the week and there were few irons in the fire but my agent phoned me on Thursday to say that Barnsley were interested."

"All I want to do is play football and I am ready for Saturday if the gaffer picks me," he added
