Barnsley defender Luke Potter has been forced to retire, aged just 22.
The left-back has suffered from a chronic knee injury, which required a series of operations, and has not featured for the Tykes since November 2010. Potter, who came through the youth system at Oakwell, said: "I'm afraid this is what it's come to. It's not what I wanted to do. You have to make a decision at some time. "I'd like to thank all the physio staff here at Barnsley who have been magnificent. Sedge (Craig Sedgwick), Chris Burton and Kev Hornsby have all been brilliant." Director Don Rowing added: "The club has lost a good player but one has to feel for Luke whose promising career has been cut short by his injury. "Luke signed as a scholar at the same time as I started at the club and I've found him to be very committed and professional in everything he does."
