The Blues, under their former name Small Heath, were founder members and the first ever champions of the Football League Second Division.
Birmingham became the first English club side to take part in European competition in 1956 when they played in the inaugural Inter-Cities Fairs Cup competition, which they finished as runners-up in 1960 and 1961.
Their domestic trophy haul includes the 1963 League Cup, but they were unable to repeat that success when they reached the final again 40 years later.
Trevor Francis is one of the club’s most famous sons.
