Blues boss keen to see midfielder
Birmingham City, 15:56, November 28, 2008 ,
Birmingham City have agreed a deal to sign ex-Aston Villa midfielder Keith Fahey - the Irish Footballer of the Year.
The 25-year-old midfielder will officially arrive at St Andrews in January when the transfer window re-opens, but he is likely to be training with the squad before the New Year.
Fahey returned to Ireland after he failed to settle at Arsenal and Aston Villa, but his performances for St Patrick's Athletic had English scouts recommending him to clubs again.
Blues boss Alex McLeish says Fahey will be hungry to impress and can't wait to give him his second chance.
He said: "I know the other Irish boys who have come into English football have acquitted themselves extremely well - (Kevin) Doyle, the two Hunt brothers (Stephen and Noel) at Reading.
"I feel that Keith will have the bit between his teeth to show that he can cut it in English football.
"He's a central midfielder and from what I've seen of him he's got vision, passes a ball accurately, seems to have a good engine and I look forward to working with him."
