Blues boss wants more reinforcements
Birmingham City, 14:01, September 2, 2010 , | No Comments
Alex McLeish had admitted he is disappointed not to have brought in a left-back despite signing three players on deadline day.
McLeish has just Liam Ridgewell and David Murphy as options to fill in the left-back position and the Blues boss has admitted he did try and secure the services of another experienced full-back.
He told the Birmingham Mail: "I did also try and get a left-back in. It's not that we're unhappy with Dave Murphy as cover just now, but he's just lacking games the last 12 months or so.
"So I did try for a recognised full-back to help the back four if something should happen to Liam Ridgewell, really. He made the position his own last season."
Should McLeish have brought in another player he would have had to drop someone from his 25-man Premier League squad after revealing he had filled his quota when his list of available players was confirmed on Wednesday.
Birmingham squad: Maik Taylor, Stephen Carr, David Murphy, Lee Bowyer, Roger Johnson, Liam Ridgewell, Sebastian Larsson, Craig Gardner, Kevin Phillips, Cameron Jerome, Garry O'Connor, Barry Ferguson, Colin Doyle, Matt Derbyshire, Scott Dann, James McFadden, Michel, Keith Fahey, Nikola Zigic, Stuart Parnaby, Aleksandr Hleb, Jean Beausejour, Ben Foster, Martin Jiranek, Jay O'Shea.
