Blues chief slams McLeish exit talk

Birmingham's acting chairman Peter Pannu has rubbished stories that manager Alex McLeish is on the verge of leaving St Andrews.

Reports in Thursday's newspapers had reported that Pannu and McLeish had been involved in a heated exchanged regarding the chairman's comments when saying McLeish was not Jose Mourinho.
Pannu has quickly moved to play down those reports, insisting his relationship with McLeish is great and claiming the Scot is on the verge of signing a new contract at the club.
"Look, this is all nonsense," he said. "We are just perhaps inches away from Alex signing a contract, possibly by next week.
"Our relationship is phenomenal, we are very strong and close, and I want to dispel this notion that there is anything wrong.
"In fact, I spoke to Alex about the Mourinho reference and we laughed about it. In the whole context of the interview I did, it would not have had a sting to it. But to take out the extract like that made it look worse than it was."
