Boss' striker scouting trip

Birmingham City, 13:56, December 2, 2009 ,

Alex McLeish watched Marseille strike duo Mamadou Niang and Brandao last week as he prepares to launch a January striker bid.

The Blues boss sat in the stands at the San Siro Stadium as Marseille played out a 1-1 Champions League draw with AC Milan and should have won.
Brandao, 29, should have scored the winning goal that night but hit the bar from six yards out after fine work from partner Niang.
The 30-year-old Senegalese striker has hit double figures in each of his last four seasons and has been in top form so far in this campaign.
Niang has been a regular for his country and should pose no problems for a work permit, were McLeish to make a move, but Brandao does not have a European passport and is not a Brazilian international.
He spent sevens seasons in Russia with Shakhtar Donetsk before moving to Marseille last January for £5 million.
