Papa Bouba Diop pulled on a Birmingham shirt for the first time today and scored in a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United Under-21s.
The no-nonsense midfielder, signed as a free agent on a one-month deal earlier in October, has been an unused substitute in Blues' last two npower Championship encounters.
And manager Lee Clark gave him the perfect opportunity to get some much-needed fitness under his belt against the Blades' second string at City's Wast Hills training ground.
Having fallen behind early on, Diop latched on to Mitch Hancox's left-wing cross to head Birmingham level shortly into the second half.
United re-established their match-winning advantage before Diop and striker Nikola Zigic, also getting some vital practice after a three-game ban, were both substituted with 20 minutes remaining,
The likes of Colin Doyle, Will Packwood, Ben Gordon and Darren Ambrose also featured in the encounter.
