Sheffield United could move for Stoke's Michael Tonge and Birmingham's Gary McSheffrey ahead of the trip to Scunthorpe.
The Blades have horrendous injury problems ahead of the return to Championship action at the weekend and former star Tonge could be on his way back.
The midfielder is well out of favour with the Potters and could be joined at Bramall Lane by fellow outcast McSheffrey.
McSheffrey is down the pecking order at St Andrew's and a drop back into the second tier is on the cards.
