Larsson hamstring blow for Blues
Birmingham City, 10:13, September 21, 2009 ,
Birmingham boss Alex McLeish cannot wait for his injury problems to clear up after Sebastian Larsson picked up a hamstring problem.
The Blues' return to the Premier League has been marred by the absence of a number of players and summer signing Scott Dann's delayed debut in the win at Hull was tempered by the loss of winger Larsson to a hamstring problem before the trip.
But McLeish, who has been without the likes of Cameron Jerome, Martin Taylor and Marcus Bent over recent weeks, hopes the second victory of the season - which came thanks to Garry O'Connor's second-half header - will spur his walking wounded on in their efforts to return to contention.
He told the Post: "What we do have is the resilience of a bunch of guys who are extremely committed. We need to get players back, there's no doubt about that because these guys can't play to the level against Hull every single week because they're going to get injured as well.
"I hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Cameron Jerome, we're waiting on him, we're waiting on (Marcus) Bent and Martin Taylor, we've had these guys out long term. David Murphy is now at a good level, (Liam) Ridgewell has defied logic, he's back in five months and people said he would be out for ten so we are really delighted with his progress.
"A result like the one against Hull gets everybody in an urgent mood to get off that treatment table."
