McLeish eyes Stoke defender

Birmingham City, 11:05, January 26, 2009 ,

Boss Alex McLeish has been linked with Stoke's Senegal international defender Ibrahima Sonko to strengthen his Birmingham defence.

The Championship promotion hopefuls have made an inquiry for the big defender, as McLeish sees him as a perfect signing to bolster up his backline at St Andrews.
City have initially enquired about a loan deal, but Stoke boss Tony Pulis is more interested in making any deal regarding the defender permanent.
The 28-year-old defender has drifted out of contention at the Brittania Stadium since his £2million move from Reading in August.
McLeish is under pressure to add to his squad as City have just won one game in seven. And, having already had a look at West Ham's Callum Davenport and Doncaster's Matt Mills, but Sonko is seen as both affordable and has got a proven record in the Championship.
