McLeish slams Ngog 'dive'

Birmingham City, 10:38, November 10, 2009

Blues boss Alex McLeish has blasted Liverpool centre-forward David Ngog who he claims 'dived' to win his side a penalty.

Birmingham were on course for a memorable 2-1 win at Anfield before referee Peter Walton pointed to the spot after Ngog had gone down following a challenge by Lee Carsely.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard stepped up to score from the resulting penalty as Liverpool earned a draw but McLeish believes Ngog dived to con the referee into awarding the home side a penalty.

"There is no real debate, Ngog has dived to win his team a penalty, it happens in the game and has done for years and years," said McLeish.

"The referee didn't get that one right, and when he looks at it again I am sure he will agree.

"He's an honest enough guy, but he will probably agree that their player dived, and it was a terrific dive. Lee Carsley never touched him."
