Race on for Palace ace
Birmingham City, 14:31, September 8, 2010 , | No Comments
Birmingham are set to make a January move on Crystal Palace to sign defender Nathanial Clyne but may face a battle with Wolves.
The highly rated defender was the subject of two offers from the Blues in the close season but the Eagles manged to keep hold of their star asset despite the financial pressures they are under but Alex McCleish is reportedly not ready to give up just yet.
He is said to be putting together a package which could tempt Palace into doing a deal which would see the England under-19-star loaned back to the Eagles.
In the meantime Wolves are waiting in the wings and Mick McCarthy is said to be ready with a bid of his own if he's given any encouragement but at the same time a spokesman for the Palace consortium claim they do not have to sell.
Steve Parish, one of the co-owners of the club and a member of the CPFC2010 consortium that saved Palace, told Talksport: "There may have been a time when we were forced into selling.
"But we are much more secure now and can afford to knock back bids. We want to keep our young players together so it would have to take something silly for us to change our minds."
