Star eyes England call-up
Birmingham City, 13:02, April 10, 2010 ,
Birmingham full-back Liam Ridgewell is targeting a future England call-up and he believes his versatility can only help him succeed.
The Blues defender was overlooked by Fabio Capello recently when he chose Leighton Baines and Stephen Warnock as the back-up following Ashley Cole's injury and the withdrawal of Wayne Bridge.
However, Ridgewell is determined to keep working hard and is convinced his chance for the national side will come sooner rather than later.
He said: "I am not the sort of person who is going to play out of position and not give his all.
"So now I'd like to think I have showed to people that I can play at centre-half and left-back.
"I have got personal ambitions, I want to try and play for England. Look at Joleon Lescott; he has played at centre-half and left-back, he scores goals. So hopefully I can emulate what he has done.
"If the team keep playing well and I keep playing well, why not?
"Hopefully Capello will keep looking at players such as myself if Birmingham continue to perform and I could put myself in there.
"Lescott's got that versatility as well and I think that kind of thing appeals to Capello."
